Recio: “I hope I’ll be here for many more years to come”

Málaga CF president, Sheikh Abdullah Al Thani had some affectionate words for the recently renewed midfielder: “I hope he’s back with us as soon as possible, and we see him again on the pitch before long”.

President Al Thani presented the renewal of Recio until the 2020/21 season: “Good afternoon everyone. We’re here to announce the renewal of Recio. I think the fight for his renewal was a little more difficult (laughs). I’m joking, negotiations were very fluid with Arnau and Recio, and the contract signing was very straightforward. I would like to thank both Arnau and Recio because, as I’ve said before, the negotiations were very easy. I hope Recio is back with us as soon as possible, and we see him again on the pitch before long with our team”.

Recio, 2021

“First of all, I wish to thank Arnau, Al Thani, the advisers and everyone at the Club. Every time I renew, it fulfils a dream for me, I’m thrilled. I view this contract renewal as particularly special because of the injuries I’ve suffered over the year. During these tough times, being able to renew with my home team brings immense joy to me, my family and my friends. Negotiations were extremely straightforward”.

Super happy

“At the time, there were those contacts, but both the Club and myself were always clear. The Club never thought about my departure, and my first option was always to stay at Málaga. Few First Division players can boast of playing for their city’s team. My objective and my main option was to renew here. This is a very happy day for me”.

Recovery

“I had surgery three weeks ago, and they gave me a period of two months before I could start playing again. Recovery time is slow and I’m currently undergoing rehabilitation. I have four or five weeks left before I can play. I have to take things calmly”.

Maturity

“I think I made my debut at 19 or 20 years of age. This is my seventh season at the Club, counting the year and a half on loan to Granada CF. I feel much more mature. This happens when you compete in the First Division and the years I’ve been at the Club. It’s an absolute privilege to have been at my home club for so many years. There’s nowhere better than here. Firstly, I need to recover, then I have to return the confidence on the pitch that has been shown to me with this renewal”.

Memories with the MCF Academy

“It’s always great looking back on these memories. They were very happy times. I arrived at the Club when I was 9 or 10. I’ve evolved. There have been many coaches who have helped me in all categories. I’ve learnt from all of them. I was fortunate that Manuel Pellegrini came to watch a reserve team game, and was clear that I had to move up to the first team. A player will always be grateful to the coach who gives them that opportunity. After that, you have to earn your place year after year. If now I have fulfilled my dream of renewing, during that time, I fulfilled my dream of debuting with the first team”.

Many more years

“I hope I’ll be here for many more years to come. During all my renewals, I’ve said the same thing; my dream is to make a career at Málaga, and that’s what I’m doing. I hope I can fulfil this contract and stay here for many years”.

Team improvement

“Since Marcelo Romero arrived, things have been going very well, which has been seen in our matches. In many games, we’ve drawn or lost when we deserved to win. In our most recent victory, our hard work was reflected on the pitch. It’s not about sensations, what we need are points. The victory against Las Palmas was deserved. I hope this will boost our confidence to keep winning and earning points”.
