With this letter I would like to officially announce my resignation as Málaga CF coach.
When we started out our hopes were high. It was a challenge to be able to compete to reach European positions. We kicked off the season in an irregular manner, but we knew how to recover as a team; convert La Rosaleda into a fortress; overcome the injury problems of very important players for us, long-term injuries that the team was able to surmount with the help of the reserve team players, whose support has been extremely valuable, players who have moved from competing in the Third Division to the First, with the effort that entails.
I still believe that this team has many possibilities to continue to grow and reach the initial objective. For that reason, I chose to make my decision at this time, when Málaga CF is in a comfortable position in the rankings, 11th place with 21 points, with three matches remaining in the first round of the competition. I consider that competing in games with the level of tension that was present in the last matches, does not help the team.
There are many changes in football, and in the face of adverse situations, it tends to be the coaches who are the most disadvantaged. In this particular case, I have decided to remove myself from a situation where I felt uncomfortable and unsatisfied.
Finally, I appreciate the respect and support I have received from the media and the fans, and of course the Club, the President, Sports Management, employees within the entity and the players. I wish everyone great success for the future as they will be Málaga CF’s successes.
