Arnau: “We are one of the few clubs that hasn’t sold any players in Spain”
Málaga CF’s sports director, Francesc Arnau analyses the transfer market that came to a close last night. “We have sufficient resources to successfully tackle the season.”
Transfer market
“The overall assessment, not just over the past few days, is that we started forming the squad in January. We signed Ricca, also Jony and Michael Santos, as well as practically 95 per cent of the team ahead of the start of the season. We’ve loaned out players in order for them to show their potential.”
Ignacio Camacho
“Last week we received an offer, we referred to the buyout clause and the player asked us to assess the option of his departure. There was nothing further from the English club, and Camacho has proven to be a great professional. He’s been, he is, and always will be a great leader, and he flies the flag for the team. He helps players alongside him to grow and develop as he has done at this Club (…) The Club has been strong since the purchase of Camacho’s rights. We are stable, which allows us to be stronger in that aspect. I have no doubt that Camacho will continue to do what he’s been doing up to now, and he has all our support for the future.”
Goalkeeper and striker
“We’ve resolved the issue of finding a keeper, and therefore the competition will increase. We’ve got four goalkeepers - two young players and two at the desired level to be in goal. Signing a striker was not feasible as the number ‘nines’ available to help the team were very expensive. We’ve got four forwards, and the coach has sufficient resources to successfully tackle the season.”
Strength
“There have been other investments, but we are one of the few clubs that hasn’t sold any players in Spain. We must appreciate the effort we’ve made this year, in maintaining a competitive team, and I think the Club is consolidated, stable and intends to grow, little by little, in order to be even stronger (…) We’ve tried to find a lot of competition for each position, with two men per place, and I think we’ve done that.”
“It was one of my ideas, aside from looking for sports performance, seeking young people to bring heritage to the Club. That’s the intention, and what we’ll be trying to do.”
Europe
“The right to fight for Europe must be earned from match to match, to see if we can be in the running for these privileged positions. Now’s not the time to talk about that, we must focus on gaining the three points from each of the next three games. This team has no limit.”
